Capt. Pete Scarafu
Where: Venice, Louisiana
We had a tip that August was a sleeper season as most travel to Louisiana for the big Reds in the winter. We were not disappointed as we were able to hook and land several nice redfish plus a bull weighing over 40 pounds!
Where we stayed:
Writers Cabin in the Delta
The writer’s cabin, nestled amongst cypress trees, is the perfect place to unplug and relax. Share your morning coffee on the screened porch (not pictured) with the birds. Have a backyard barbeque near the water. Enjoy the canal with the provided kayaks and stand up paddle board. After dark relax by the fire pit. This spot is just five minutes from a marina. Sleeps five comfortably. Your getaway at the Writer's Cabin in the Delta will be one to remember.
Gear we used:
8 and 9 wt. rods with floating lines.
Wulff floating line - WF - 9 Triangle taper.
Tibor , nautilus, and Lamson Litespeed fly reels
12 wt. rod with full sinking line for sharks
Medium/ heavy power spinning rods with 4000 spinning reels and braid for walk the dog surface plug and chatterbait.
Small heavy purple crab fly took the 3 sheepshead in one day on fly. A VERY tough fish to get on fly. 8 lbr. was fairly close to state recoed.
Heavy power St Croix saltwater spinning rod for popping cork and soft plastic shrimp.
Used spinner bait also with same MH spinning rods.
